Northampton is a large county town, (Northamptonshire) in the East Midlands region of the UK. It lies on the River Nene, situated about 67 miles (108 km) north-west of London and around 50 miles (80 km) south-east of Birmingham.

With a population of 212,100 recorded in the 2011 census, Northampton is one of the largest urban centres in the United Kingdom without city status and is the most popular non-metropolitan district of England.
